Richardson 112 custom logo'd hats look sensational when we color coordinate the colors of the hat with your logo or design. This means when embroidering on the front of the hats, we use a thread color that matches the hat's accent color (usually the mesh or contrast stitching). Some companies don't like this design method because the thread color might not match the exact color in their logo. However, we have found that a slight difference in the logo color is usually acceptable when compared to the outstanding result of matching it to the hat. When possible, we believe that matching the embroidery thread color to the hat accent color creates the highest quality look. In our experience, when a company insists on matching their exact brand color when there's a competing similar color in the hat, the end result looks like a mistake was made. So, if the embroidered logo MUST match an exact color, we recommend using neutral hat colors like black, white and gray.
With the 112 Richardson hat being the most popular style we have 61 two tone color options to color coordinate with any custom logo design. The Two Color Split Trucker hat is truly perfect for color coordinating the embroidery.
With only 8 Richardson 112 solid colors to select you might think they should have more hat color options. But the reality is most people only buy solid back and a distant second is the color navy. Solid hat colors will always be popular and black is always the most popular in almost every hat style. When selecting a hat color, keep in mind the color you want to use for your embroidered logo. Most customers want their logo to be visible on the hats. Dark color logos look best on light color hats and light color logos look best on dark color hats. If you want your logo to be visible its best to select a hat color that is not the same as your logo color. For instance, if your brand color is royal blue and your logo color is royal blue, it's best not to select a royal blue hat since the royal logo would blend in on the royal hat color. Instead, select a complimentary hat color like black or white.
Most customers ordering custom camouflage hats either want their embroidery to be subtle and blend in with the camo pattern, or they want their embroidery to be really visible and pop off the camo fabric. Some of the Richardson hat styles use a contrasting color for the mesh that is great to match the embroidery to, then the embroidery will be really visible and readable on the camo pattern. An example is the Richardson Green Camo/White hat. White thread, to match the mesh, is very visible on the green camo pattern. If the subtle look is wanted, the Richardson Green Camo/Black hat is a great option. Black thread to match the mesh is subtle on the green camo pattern. For an embroidery design that stands out and has a hunting look, some customers like to use blaze orange thread for their embroidery. On a hat like the Richardson Realtree Edge/Brown, blaze orange thread stands out against the colors of the camo pattern and creates a classic hunting look.
What is a 5 panel hat? The difference between a 5 and 6 panel hat is the seam that runs down the center front of a hat. The 5 panel hat has a seamless front two panels with the stitching ending at the top of the front of the hat. We find most customers choose a 5-panel because they believe the front must be seamless in order to embroider it. This is incorrect. Not only that, due to the pinch fold at the top-center, the five panel version of the Richardson 112 actually has less vertical space for embroidery on the center front of the hat compared to the 6 panel version. Embroidery height at the center of the 5 panel 112 style is limited to about 2 inches tall so the embroidery needle does not run into the pinch fold and distort the embroidery design. A company should choose the 5-panel if they like the style, not for any customization necessity.
The Richardson 112 Tri-Tone trucker hat is perfect for color coordinating with custom logo'd embroidery. These hats look great when we use a thread color that matches the mesh color or the bill color when embroidering on the front of the hats. Matching back to the second or third color on the hat creates a premium eye-catching look. Custom embroidered 112 Tri-Tone hats look great when you select the color to be embroidered based on which color has more contrast to the main hat color. For instance on the red/white/black hat, you could use either black or white thread for the embroidery. Black thread for an understated look, while white thread looks great if you really want your embroidery design to stand out. This lets the third hat color really pop without conflicting with your brand.
Richardson's color techniques are state-of-the-art. The mesh back panels are no longer limited to one solid color. Richardson printed mesh hats now have color fades and even printed patterns like an American Flag motif. We find that these printed mesh hats are perfect for color coordinating custom embroidery. Specifically, the Richardson 112 hats look great when we match one of the colors in the printed mesh when embroidering on the two front panels of the hats. For instance white thread looks great on the white fade hats. Using red, white and/or blue thread that matches the American Flag looks great on the front of the Flag printed mesh hats. Selecting a contrasting color from the camo pattern on the mesh looks outstanding on the front of the Camo printed mesh hats.

The Richardson way is to make every hat style with style and quality. But sometimes Richardson hats make a product that is perfect in every way. When upgrading the Richardson 112 into the 112 Plus, two main aspects were improved. First the mesh fabric was upgraded to a cotton twill and stretch polyester, providing a flexible, breathable, and soft to the touch feel. The Richardson hat stretch in the poly mesh offers a perfect fit. Second upgrading the regular sweatband to a comfort fitted adjustable sweatband. The two changes Richirdson hats made were not inexpensive but truly appreciated by the Richardson hat customer that only wants the best in class.
